Anti Corruption grabs Freetown City Mayor, Chief Administrator and eight others

Reliable sources close to this Medium have confirmed that the Mayor of the Municipality of Freetown, Herbert Akieremi George-Williams, the Chief and Deputy Administrators, Bowenson Federick Phillips and Arrthur Kwesi-John respectively and seven others were arrested yesterday and placed under the custody of the Anti Corruption Commission, while family members and friends were desperately moving all over to secure bail for the arrested persons.

As at yesterday, the Mayor Herbert Akieremi George-Willioams and the Chief Administrator Bowenson Federick Phillips, were both served with copies of the indictment and put on bail in the sum of Le500,000,000.00 (Five hundred Million Leones) and two Surties to be property Owners in the Western Area of Freetown.

The ACC filed twenty-five (25) count indictment on all ten persons on various corruption offences ranging from conspiracy to commit corruption offences, misappropriation of public funds, failure to comply with applicable rules and guidelines relating to the procurement of contract for services, failure to pay (“PAYE”) taxes, failure to pay NASSIT contributions etc.

All ten persons will be arraigned before the High Court in Freetown on the 5th of December 2011.
