Top Security meeting in Makeni

In preparation for the November 17, 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections senior military officers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) including commanders of all the Battalions and Brigades are currently meeting in Makeni Teko Barracks in Northern Sierra Leone in a two day strategic security planning.

According to sources close to the Ministry of Defense, the two day Command Group Conference which started yesterday 8th and end today 9th November, 2011is aimed at bringing together senior military commanders to deliberate on the general security of the country ahead of the country Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The meeting, reports state, will also discuss policy formulation and some of the challenges facing the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces as an institution tasked with the responsibility of defending the country’s territorial integrity in accordance with the Constitution of Sierra Leone.

Another key issue that will be deliberated on is that of the welfare of junior officers and other ranks of RSLAF who reports state are in dire need of accommodation facilities as most of them are currently suffering with their families without any form of assistance in terms of accommodation.

A senior military officer intimated this press that they hope to discuss many other issues that will address the welfare and needs of their personnel, adding that they as authorities are aware of the problems and that if the Chief of Defense Staff Major General Robert Yirah Koroma, Deputy Chief of Defense Staff Brigadier Samuel Williams together with the Minister of Defense have been and continue to work relentlessly in addressing the needs of their personal there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In another related development, the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police will be also be meeting with the Leaders of the country’s political parties in order to map out security arrangement that will usher in a peaceful, free, fair and democratic elections.

The meeting is expected to take place on Monday 12th December, 2012 at the Bank Complex Kingtom in Freetown.

This meeting according report is also part of the many security strategies been develop by the Sierra Leone Police Force for a maximum security protections for not only for political parties but also ordinary citizens who are currently yarning for a peaceful elections come 2012 adding that the whole idea of organized this security forum for the political parties is because political parties and their leaders has a great responsibility in the enhancement of peace and security in the country especially so when the country is approaching the general elections.

The meeting report added will be attended by all political party leaders, their District Chairmen, Chairladies and youth leaders who have the grater responsibility of ensuring that peace prevail not only during elections but after elections
