GOVERNMENT ENDORSES PC ALFRED HINDOWA DEMBY AS PARAMOUNT CHIEF

The democratically elected Paramount Chief of Baoma Chiefdom, Bo District Alfred Hindowa Demby the 5th was on Saturday 7th January 2012 formally presented to his subjects by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Honourable Hadiru Kaloko at an inauguration ceremony held at the Chiefdom Head Quarter town of Yamadu some eighteen miles away from the heart of Bo, Southern Sierra Leone.

The Inauguration Ceremony attracted other Paramount Chiefs from both the Southern and Eastern regions, Ministers of Government, State Actors, Members of the Forth Estate, influential stakeholders, dignitaries, chiefdom authorities and thousands of indigenes of Baoma and well wishers.

In his opening statement, the Resident Minister South, Honourable Moijueh Kaikai who chaired the session, paid tribute to Dr. Albert Joe Demby, former Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone for his past dynamic leadership role and good services to the country which he says, contributed to the achievement of the peace and democracy that Sierra Leoneans are now enjoying.

Honourable Kaikai said; the good works of Dr. Joe Demby were not appreciated and that the then Tejan Kabbah SLPP led government and its functionaries abused, neglect, provoke and above all abandoned the former gentleman of the country without making any provision for his benefit and other state facilities to be enjoyed as a former Vice President of this Republic. According to Hon. Kaikai, Dr. Albert Joe Demby was accorded the right to live like former vice President by the APC government under the dynamic leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma who went the extra mile to pave the way for the provision of state facilities for retired Vice Presidents, irrespective of their political associations. Hon. Kaikai went further to state that the APC Party will not treat any of its members the way the former Vice President and other past members of the SLPP have been treated. He noted that his role as a Resident Minister is to ensure that his region is peaceful, but not to appoint or remove chiefs.

In his testimony, Mr. Albert Harding a strong member and elder of the Kondor family who is also the elder brother of Dr. Prince Harding, former Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and Minister of Transport and Communication in the then Ahmed Tejan Kabbah SLPP led government, confirmed to Honourable Kaloko and the gathering that the Paramount chieftaincy election conducted in Baoma on 19th July 2011 was Peaceful, Democratic, Transparent, Free and Fair. According to Albert Harding, Paramount Chief Alfred Hindowa Demby genuinely won and democratically elected by the people of Baoma Chiefdom, describing the  July 19th Paramount Chieftaincy elections as genuine and transparent he has never witnessed in his life time. While congratulating the new Traditional Ruler, Mr. Harding referred to P.C Demby as a man of peace and development oriented and thanked all councillors that participated in the last Paramount Chief elections for their wise decision in electing the dynamic, innovative, and dedicated and no non-sense Paramount Chief.

Albert Harding, the elder brother of Dr. Prince Harding, encouraged others who are yet to concede defeat to emulate his good example   by teaming up with Paramount Chief Alfred Hindowa Demby the 5th for the development of Baoma Chiefdom and the country as a whole.

The Regional Police Commander, South AIG David Sesay urged the people of Baoma Chiefdom to respect the rule of law in their respective communities or face the full force of the law when caught. The Chairman, Council of Paramount Chiefs Bo District, Professor Joe Kangbai Macavourey of Tikonko Chiefdom advised the people to respect their Paramount Chief as leadership comes from God.  P.C Professor Macavourey implored the aggrieved party to ignore all side comments and meet members of the Council of Paramount Chiefs for a- face- to- face- talk and entreated them not shy away to meet and interact with their Paramount Chief.

Addressing the people prior to the formal presentation of the Staff of Authority and medal to the new Paramount chief, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Honourable Hadiru Kaloko who deputized the Local Government Minister, Ambassador Dauda Kamara on behalf of government endorsed the election of Paramount Chief Alfred Hindowa Demby the 5th of Baoma Chiefdom and congratulate him on his victory in the just concluded Paramount Chief elections held on 19th July 2011. According to the Deputy Minister, His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma President of the Republic of Sierra Leone has already recognized Mr. Alfred Hindowa Demby as the legitimate and democratically elected Paramount Chief of Baoma Chiefdom. “I am here as the Deputy Minister of Local Government to inaugurate and present the new Traditional Ruler to People of Baoma Chiefdom and State Functionaries of  Southern Region” Honourable Kaloko maintained.

The Deputy Minister appealed to the people of Baoma Chiefdom to respect their new Paramount Chief and above all, to put political sentiment aside and work as a cohesive force for the betterment of their Chiefdom.  He also advised Paramount Chief Alfred Hindowa Demby to embrace his subjects especially contenders of the the last Paramount Chieftaincy elections Mr. Julius Kondor and supporters, in the interest of peace and development. In his Inaugural Speech, the first gentleman of Baoma Chiefdom thanked all those present to grace the historic occasion and expressed his willingness to embrace and work with his subjects as recommended by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

The Paramount Chief admonished his subjects to forgive and accept one another for the progress of their beloved chiefdom. Paramount Chief Alfred Hindowa Demby implored his people to serve as ambassadors of peace by bringing on board supporters and sympathizers of the Kondor Ruling house.

Valuable contributions were made by Dr. Joe Albert Demby, Director of Local Government Aiah Lebbie, Provincial Secretary South, Jacob Quee and the Senior District Officer Bo, Abdulai Mansaray among others. Cultural performances and presentation of the staff to the new Chief climaxed the Inauguration Ceremony.
