… Canon Modupeh Pearce Takes Over

It was sad, unimaginable and least expected that he would receive a sack letter from his boss, the Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone, President Ernest Bai Koroma in the month of February 2012, the same month he was appointed in 2009 as Pro Chancellor of the same Higher Learning Institution in the Country.

Dr. Raymond Kamara,  during the Inauguration Ceremony of the newly constituted University Court where he served as Chairman admonished members of the Court to work hard and improved the image of the University,( published in one of the editions of the Awoko Newspaper .“The new University court chairman and Pro- Chancellor of the University Dr. Raymond Kamara called on the court to strive hard to rebuild the image the University and to take a hard look at the conditions of service of University workers. Dr. Kamara said despite the country continues boasting to be the Athens of West Africa and also despite the founding of Fourah Bay College in 1827, yet the country still has the highest rate of illiteracy”

It may sound incredible that while the out gone Chairman and Pro Chancellor was calling on workers and University staff to work and improve the image of the University, he was probably not working hard as reasons for the termination of his services may not be unconnected with allegations of non performance. President Ernest Bai Koroma has officially appointed, The Rev. Canon Modupeh Taylor Pearce as the new Pro Chancellor of the University, whose appointment was done on 20th February, 2012 and a letter dated 23rd February 2012 conveying the President’s decision to him.

The Rev. Canon Modupeh Taylor Pearce is a renowned “Man of God” and has established himself over the years as a teacher, principal, preacher, leader and a national figure of emulation. His contribution to religious education and other spheres in human endeavours have been remarkable. He will be inaugurated on 10th March, 2012 at the Mary Kinsley Hall, Fourah Bay College. The position of Pro Chancellor, according to sources at the University Secretariat is for a period of three years subject to renewal. Unfortunately, Dr. Raymond Kamara’s tenure was cut short for reasons that were not made public only rumoured as unsatisfactory performance.
