Red-carpet award for Sorie Sudan in London

Information Attaché at the Sierra Leone’s High Commission and also Publisher and CEO of the renowned SIERRA Update international news magazine has added another trophy to his cabinet with a prestigious award at a red-carpet ceremony in London. Sorie Sudan Sesay’s SIERRA Update magazine was named the 2013 AWOL Media House of the Year at the jam-packed annual All Walks of Life (AWOL) United Kingdom National Achievements Awards ceremony, held at the Royal Regency, East London last Saturday.


The award came less than a week after SIERRA Update won four awards at this year’s National Achievements Awards ceremony organized by the Independent Media Commission of Sierra Leone (IMC) in Freetown. “I’m happy the world is begging to appreciate our good works – these awards mean so much to me personally and my job,” Sudan said, who today presented the award to Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Edward Mohamed Turay at his 41 Eagle Street, Holborn, West Central London office.

“I’m impressed and so proud of you – the fact that people out there were able to acknowledge the fact that our mission is the only Sierra Leonean mission, which has an Information Attaché publishing an international magazine portraying the image of Sierra Leone, is a credit for us,” the High Commissioner said. In fact, this was part of the citation read on behalf of the magazine that “SIERRA Update is the only Sierra Leonean news magazine published in the entire Europe highlighting the achievements of the government.”

SIERRA Update international magazine was shortlisted alongside three other renowned news magazines publishing in the United Kingdom, including Calabash and The ceremony was graced by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Edward Mohamed Turay, sensational Nollywood Actresses Patience Ozorkwor, Fatima Jabe, Theodora Ibiekwe, as well as football personalities such as Mohammed Kallon, Junior Parade, AWOL Sierra Leone Executive Kweku Lisk, Richard Taylor, father of the late Damilola Taylor and other distinguished persons. SIERRA Update is a pan-Sierra Leonean development-focused news magazine published in London and distributed in Europe, America and in Sierra Leone as well as lately in The Gambia, Guinea and Liberia.

The magazine brings you monthly updates about developments in Sierra Leone as well as major strategic highlights within the sub-region. The magazine is also distributed to the Sierra Leonean communities as well as diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom as a major strategy to bring closer to the world the good side of Sierra Leone. “The Western media have turned a complete blind eye on the good things happening in Sierra Leone and all they talk about is the war which we have put far back of us – that is why we have decided to bring these good things out for them to see,” said Sudan who believes that the publication of the magazine is an extension of his work and part of his contribution towards the rebranding of Sierra Leone.

SIERRA Update magazine is undoubtedly the fastest growing and fastest selling news magazine in Sierra Leone having won several awards including being named two-times award winners by the Sierra Leone Vendors Association.
