Chinese Embassy donates Le70M & four bikes towards continued Ebola Fights


The Chinese Embassy in continuation of their support on behalf of the People’s Republic of China to the people of Sierra Leone has on Thursday the 4th of December 2014 presented a cheque of Seventy million Leones (Le70,000,000.00) with four Motorbikes to the Ministry of Social Welfare Children and Gender Affairs. The event which took place at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown attracted officials from the Ministry and the Mayor of the Municipality of Makeni.

Welcoming Officials His Excellency Ambassador Zhao Yanbo expressed that the Chinese Government has been with the Government and People of Sierra in the fight against the Ebola epidemic since its outbreak. He presented a cheque of Seventy million Leones with Four Motorbikes on behalf of the people Republic of China to the Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs. He revealed that this donation is  to support Makeni Municipality and the Western Area towards the fight to eliminate Ebola and that this emergency donation  is support to support the Victims and Survivor. He reminded those present that since the Ebola Outbreak in Sierra Leone China was the first Country to support Sierra Leone in terms of Emergency Health Materials, Food and Medical experts to compliments the efforts of government and health Development partners to save the lives of people. He concluded by promising their continued strengthening of the bilateral relationship between the two Countries. He assured all that the Government and People of China will continue their help to the people of this country to be able to resume actives for their livelihood.

The Seventy million Leones is for the purchase of discharge packages for discharged patients and that each package which are expected to contain Rice, vegetable oil, soap, clothes to name but a few. The four motorbikes are to facilitate efficient surveillance and contact tracing.

Mr. Mujueh Kaikai the Honourable Minister of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children Affairs receiving the Seventy million Leones Cheque and the donated bikes on behalf of the Government and People of Sierra Leone thanked the Government and the People of China for their continued support at this difficult moment of our Nation. He said that the relationship between China and Sierra Leone is far stronger than anyone could imagine from all what we have seen. He added that since the outbreak China did not wait for protocols before coming to our aid. The items he said would go directly to the intended beneficiaries. He promised Ambassador Zhao Yanbo that he would be invited to witness the distribution exercise as he has clearly shown his passion for Sierra Leone.

The Mayor for the Municipality of Makeni Madam Sunkari Kabba Kamara in her Statement expressed thanks and appreciation to the People’s Republic of China.  She added that the donation is timely as new cases are emerging on daily bases.  The number of Ebola hotspots has increased rapidly within her Municipality. Mayor Kamara noted that one of her major concerns now is the post Ebola Era. She concluded by stating that the Seventy million Cheque would be used for the intended purposes to save the lives of her people in this crises period and prayed for the late President Steen for establishing the Sierra Leone China Friendship.
