Ex-President Kabbah is sick in Sierra Leone

He was last seen at the funeral of the late Mr. Mohammed Daramy where observers noted that he was looking frail and sick. The situation has continued to develop against his favour and wish and he is now reportedly deteriorating both in physical and mental alertness. Ex-President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, it would be recalled was refused the United States of America visa, when he submitted an application through the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs and International Relations. Mr. Sullay Daramy, the Director General of Foreign Affairs Department who processed his documents, normally referred to in diplomatic jargons as note verbal was shocked to receive a response from the United States of America Embassy in Freetown, turning down the visa application of Sierra Leone’s former President.

Little or no reason was giving to him as to why the application for a visa was rejected. The State Department of the United States of America till date has not come back, through its Embassy or the Homeland Security to give reason as to why the ex-president’s application was rejected. Since then, ex-president Kabbah has been suffering both from psychological as well as mental illness coupled with his poor and deteriorating health condition.

News that his situation is getting worse by the day was received yesterday by one of his best friends, Mr. Sheki Bangura, husband of the Minister of Health and Sanitation who telephoned another friend and brother and informed him that he just learnt that the health condition of their friend is not improving as expected. “He might be flown to South Africa for medical treatment as he had already been rejected an American Visa” Alhaji Sesay responded.

Since the conclusion and election of the SLPP Convention in Freetown, party sources say the Party National Women’s Leader, Mrs. Isata Jabbie-Kabbah is not having time to visit the office as she is reportedly busy attending to her husband and also taking care of religious obligation. Her absence has been misrepresented and mis-interpreted by many party supporters of the newly elected flag bearer, Mr. Julius Maada Bio. Some say she is disappointed over the entire electioneering process as she was expecting that the flag bearer ticket would have been given to Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara who was her choice and that of her husband, but since the Party Delegates made her dream impossible, she has decided to take a little time rest at home and attend her husband until such a time when it would be convenient for her to make herself available at the office.

Meanwhile, some SLPP members, it is alleged are asking the current Party Executives to visit their former leader and President and to put the past behind them. “He was our leader and president of Sierra Leone, which we should not forget because of politics” A member of the current executive was quoted to have said. It is not known whether there are plans to take the ex-president out of the country for medical treatment or not.
