Prince of Wales School wins Inter Secondary quiz Completion

As part of its annual activities towards raising the awareness on environmental issues in the country, the Environment Protection Agency of Sierra Leone has organized an inter Secondary School quiz competition for members of its school nature clubs in the country. The quiz competition which mainly focuses this year on the threats of climate change was slightly won by the Prince of Wales Secondary School Nature Club from Kingtom with 26 points. The Anne Walsh Secondary School Nature Club came second with 24 points while the Sengbepieh Secondary Nature Club from Hamilton clinched the third position in the quiz competition with 21 points.

The environment Protection Agency has over hundred schools nature clubs across the country. Aiah Wurie Kembay, an Environment Officer at the Environment Protection Agency said this year’s School Quiz Competition focused on Climate Change and that because of the present Ebola virus in the country, they targeted six Schools in the city with two boys schools, two girls schools and two co-schools.

Each of the winning schools received a trophy which depicts the environment. The winning School also received a cash price of one million five hundred thousand Leones, the second received one million Leones while the third winning school received ive hundred thousand Leones. Before announcing the winners of the competition, one of the senior Moderators and Panelists of the competition, Mr. Denis Streeter said the quiz was highly competitive and highly contested.

While she was presenting the trophies to the winning schools, the Executive Chairperson of the Environment Protection Agency of Sierra Leone on behalf of the Board and staff of her agency thanked the pupils for taking time in participating for the quiz competition especially when it centers on ssues relating to climate change. she said the competition which her Agency will always ensure to organize each year across the country will expose the school going pupils to know more about the environment and help to find ways in which they can be handled.


Mr. Aiah Kembay noted the major function of the Environment Protection Agency is to educate the public about environmental issues in the country that why they focused on the environment and climate change during the quiz competition since it is an issue one cannot keep quiet about especially when sierra Leone is the third vulnerable country in terms of threats to Climate Change.
