Japan Government donates to Fight against Ebola

In the fight against the Ebola Virus in the country, the Government of Japan through its Embassy in Sierra Leone has on Thursday, 30th July 2015 handed over items worth 389.94 Million Japanese Yen in the form of Emergency Grant.

In his presentation, the Consul of the Embassy of Japan Mr. Kishore Shankerdas noted that the items include fifty Folding Stretchers, fourteen Height Adjustable Stretcher, one hundred Pole Stretchers, thirteen LED Floodlights. One Diesel silent generators, 37KVA, three Diesel silent generators, 30KVA, ten Diesel silent generators, 20KVA, SIX Diesel silent generator 12.5KVA, Twenty Eight Diesel silent generator10KVA, thirteen Assembling Restroom Tents, thirteen small water purification devices, thirteen Water tank and feed cock, two hundred and forty loudspeakers, fifty flooding beds and four incinerators.

The Consul of the Embassy of Japan Mr. Kishore Shankerdas gave assurance that the Government of Japan will continue to support the Government and people of Sierra Leone in the fight against Ebola and during post Ebola.

Mr. Shankerdas also recalled the various contributions made by the Government of Japan prior to this time to the country and the three countries that are affected by the Ebola crisis namely Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

The Procurement Agent for the Government of Japan, the Crown Agents Country Representative Mr. Martin Denial expressed delight at the handing over ceremony and prayed that the Ebola Virus Crisis would soon be a thing of the past so that we would all focus on the Post Ebola Recovery Era.

Dr. Sheku Sesay from the National Ebola Centre revealed that it was not the first or second time that the Government of Japan was donating to the fight against the Ebola Virus and prayed that more would be done in the future.

Dr. Sesay furthered that it was all to demonstrate the good relationship between the Government and People of Japan to the Government and People of Sierra Leone.

He recalled some of the contributions of the Government of Japan to Sierra Leone in the form of Agriculture, Medicine, Water and the fight against Ebola to name but a few.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ebola Centre Retired Major Alimamy P Conteh expressed thanks to God for the donation. He also commended the Government and People of Japan for supporting the country in its fight against the Ebola Virus.

He noted that as we enter the final phase of the Ebola fight most of the donated items will be used in the post Ebola period to strengthen the health system in the country.

On behalf of the Government and the National Ebola Centre, the Chief Executive Officer assured that the items would be used judiciously.
