Construction of Junior Sec. School in Fallah Community …Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) Hands over site to Contractor

Welthungerhilfe with funds from a private German donor Juergen Hoeller Foundation is in the process of constructing six classroom blocks in the Fallah community, Wandor chiefdom in Kenema district. The six classrooms building when completed will comprise an office space, store, six drop holes VIP latrine and a hand dug well fitted with Indian Mark – II pump.

The project is expected to last for four months and has been officially handed over to the contractor Fire Investment Construction Company on the 27th June 2020 at Fallah, the chiefdom headquarter town.

In his presentation, the Head of Project SLE1056, Mr. Santiqie Kamanda Kanu said, Welthungerhilfe has always complement the effort of Government and the construction of the Junior Secondary School is in support of Government’s agenda to make education accessible to all which is in line with the Free Quality School Education initiative.

He said their organization is one of the leading organizations that always strive in meeting the needs of the people including meeting the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals agenda. Mr. Kanu explained that, the purpose of the gathering over the weekend was to officially handover to the contractor including the site plan, and technical specification to the people of Fallah.

In his statement, the Chairman Kenema District Council Mohamed O. Level Sesay on behalf of the President and the people of Fallah thanked WHH and their Donor for the kind gesture.  

Chairman Sesay admonished all present especially parents and guardians to see education as a key instrument and encouraged them to participate and monitor the construction work to the completion of the project.

The Member of Parliament, Constituency 017 Brima Mansaray, praised WHH describing the event as historic, noting that the construction work has been handed over to the contractor; and shows readiness and commitment to the job.

Hon Mansaray called on his people to claim ownership over the project while admonishing them to work as a team for the speedy conclusion of the work; by giving out their time and energy.

He cautioned the people and the contractor to do their best so that together they will be able to achieve the desired result.

The Paramount Chief of Wandor Chiefdom, PC Henry .K. Fangawa appreciated WHH and their funding partner by extension for their prompt and timely intervention, noting that the past decades  Fallah has been faced with challenges due to lack of secondary school in the chiefdom.

“This is a dream come true and I assure you all of my commitment, dedication and cooperation to this project,” he said.

The Paramount Chief reiterates the importance of the Junior Secondary School which he said will help to salvage most of the problems faced by parents and guardians as education is the road to a brighter future.

PC Fagawa admonished his subjects to desist from negative behaviour and appealed that they give the most needed support to the contractor and the project; thanking them for their contribution since the start of the project.

As it is the Bid Opening for the construction of this school happened on the 4th June 2020 in the presence of the WHH Country Director, Ursula Langkamp emphasized that the bid activities must ensure Tax receipts and all other relevant documents.

Six Bids documents were tendered and bidding process was transparent, accurate and done in credible manner for the project.
