Through the assistance of the Chinese people in Sierra Leone, the burden of plying from Regent to Grafton and Kossor Town will soon be ease. The funds for the construction of the road costing thirty million United States dollars ($30) was provided by the Chinese government through their bilateral development funds. Another project for the construction of a mini hydro dam funded by China was also launched at Regent. The President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma has handed over the construction work of this road to the China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) on Tuesday 20th December 2011 at the Regent Community. The turning of the sod and handing over of the construction work was witnessed by key dignitaries from the Chinese community here in Sierra Leone and other government key dignitaries including the Vice President, the Ministers of Works and Energy.
President Koroma thanked the people republic of china for providing the funds for the construction of the Regent-Kossoh Town Road adding that China has always been and will always be the friend of Sierra Leone. He said after the completion of the road project, it will serve greatly the people of Sierra Leone and ease the traffic congestion one may experience through passing the eastern part of the city. The Sierra Leone President said the contractors for the construction work; the China Railway Seventh Group is “honest people, competent people and trustworthy company” who he rely on to construct modern type of road networks across the country. He mentioned some of the road projects they are engaged on.
The construction work for the 11.26km road from Regent to Kossh Town will last for 25 months and the engineers and CRSG said it will try hard to complete the road before such time.
The CRSG Managing Director from China, Mr. Chen said his company will do all its best to always keep quality and safety under their control in constructing roads for Sierra Leoneans.
The Chinese Ambasador to Sierra Leone, Kuang Weiling said they want the economy of Sierra Leone to boom and everyone to enjoy. He also said the CRSG will do the best work for the Regent-Kossoh Town road construction. He thanked the president of Sierra Leone for championing infrastructural development noting that there is no way a country can develop without such activities.
However, the China Railway Seventh Group is keen at supporting national development since its starts operation in the country some four years ago and has been embarking on its corporate social responsibilities in a number of communities across the country. Some of its key supports to communities include the widening of the Waterloo Police Checkpoint with bulldozer under request of the Police Headquarter, providing self-dumping trucks and front loaders to participate in the town cleaning for the 50th year anniversary in Sierra Leone assisting in doing the site clearing and leveling of a container parking area for military use with front loader at Cockrill Military Barracks.
The CRSG is also engaged in construction works in Makeni-Matotoka highway which is about thirty-five kilometer distance, the Bo-Kenema Highway which is also about sixty-five kilometers, Port Loko-Lungi axis which consist of sixty-two kilometers and major roads in the city including the Wilkinson Road project which is about to finish and the Spur Road project.
China Railway seventh Group Company Ltd. (CRSG), registered in Zinghou, Henan Province is a large state-owned enterprise which directly sets up for more competitive market structure of China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC). CRSG has been awarded state awards and Luban Prize for high quality works in eight times and awards for high quality works of provincial/ministry levels in 138 times. CRSG Overseas work
In other countries, CRSG has already completed works including the Dinghiraye and Niger Bridges in Guinea, the Medinandiathbe River in Senegal, the MPIJI Bridge in Tanzania and the GAO Bridge in Mali have been praised highly by local government and people. At present, in the overseas project there are 600 all kinds of technicians which include 36 people with senior title of professional post and 126 people with senior title of professional post and 126 with medium grade professional title. The projects presently under construction include; construction of Tanzania Forest Service headquarters building project in Tanzania, Singida shelui Road Upgrading project in Tanzania (33km), upgrading of SAM NUJOMA road project in Tanzania, construction of new RUVU bridge Tanzania to name few.
