Hon. Ibrahim Sorie takes up duty in Brussels:…replaces Dr. Christian Kargbo as Ambassador

Prior to his retirement last year, Hon. Ibrahim Sorie holds the enviable record of being one of the longest serving APC Parliamentarian. For 30 years (1982-2012), he has been representing his people in Kambia Central Constituency, Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Born in Rokupr town, Magbema Chiefdom on April 6, 1949, Hon. Sorie holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Diploma in Education (BA Dip.Ed) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He completed his Secondary School education at the Kolenten Secondary School in Kambia and Primary at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic in Rokupr.

He also holds a Diploma in Management Studies from the Glasgow College of Technology, Scotland, which led to the award of the Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute by the Chartered Insurance Institute of London.

His exemplary public life and dedicated service to his country, as an Assistant Teacher at the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress and later at the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood; Marketing Officer and later Deputy Manager at Motor Insurance Department of the National Insurance Company, General Manager, Pauline Marie Trading Company; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources; Minister of State at the Ministry of Trade and Industry; APC Parliamentary Chief Whip; APC Party Chairman in the Kambia District; Focal Person EU/ACP Joint Parliamentary Assembly; Focal Person ECOWAS Parliament and many other accolades to his credit. He was decorated by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma with the National Honour Award of Commander of the Order of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the second highest in civilian National Award last April and appointed Justice of the Peace and Commissioner For Oaths.

Hon. Sorie said he considers himself an inspirational leader who “believes in providing enlightenment and responsible team leadership to uplift and improve the lot of mankind by ensuring that he creates a just, peaceful, stable and prosperous world”. He added and said, “I believe in treating people with dignity and respect, keeping them fully engaged in what we do and fully encourage their involvement and participation thereby establishing a culture of trust and fostering people’s pride in whatever they do in achieving societal goals”.

The expectation of both the government and the Sierra Leonean communities in his countries of accreditation (France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, and the Vatican in Italy) are understandably high and hope that he will utilise his vast wealth of experience in both private and public life to fly the Sierra Leone flag higher in Mainland Europe.

Hon. Ibrahim Sorie has the capability of achieving more but, requires the unflinching moral and financial support of the government to attain such dream. He is married with eight children.
