SLPP Executive breaks silence and says “I,m not interested in Running mate”

Since the Sierra Leone People’s Party flag bearership elections tussle started last year, one of the party’s Senior Executive Members, Alhaji Kanja Sesay decided to maintain sealed lips, and has giving to reason as to why he was supporting or not supporting retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio. The former head of the National Commission for Social Action, NaCSA recently learnt from the rumour mill that he was the most qualified candidate amongst the long list of qualifiers including, Dr. Kadie Sesay and Osman Boie Kamara to serve as the ex-junta leader running mate  for the 2012 battle with Ernest Bai Koroma. To disengage the wheels of the rumour mill, Alhaji Kanja Sesay has decided to break silence by making it by telling voters of this country and the world at large that he is not interested in running mate position “I am not a running mate material” He said

 

Speaking to this reporter, Alhaji Kanja Sesay said that he is not aspiring for running mate in the SLPP nor is he interested in the second highest office of the country” He explained that if he is to be appointed a running mate, it would raise a lot of questions, namely the national character of the party and its motto of ‘One country One people’. Alhaji Kanja Sesay is a member of theSierra Leone’s People Party who hails from the Southern Province together with the party’s Flag Bearer, Julius Maada Bio and emphasized fact that he has a very strong root in Bonthe District, which is the place of birth of the party flag bearer.

He warned members of the party not to disturb the party leader with issue of running mate as his focus for now is how to unite the party and campaign for the 2012 elections.  “After the party convention I have been with him visiting almost all former Aspirants and urging them to see reasons and fight for the unity of the party,” he went on, and added that he has been discussing with Bio on the process of how to select a running mate but have never suggested names to him.

Alhaji Kanja Sesay informed this reporter that he joined Bio’s camp as a representative of his people and all he did for him was to give his own opinion about what his people from the South wants and noted that the party does not want the issue of running mate to bring disunity among members of the party, which was a serious factor in the 2007 election. “We have learnt our mistakes and we are very careful in making decision for a running mate, because we don’t want to end up making the wrong choice,” Alhaji Sesay Concluded.
